ABOUT ECLIPSE
Who owns and runs Eclipse Handcrafted Furniture?
Founder's and current owners of Eclipse Handcrafted Furniture, Ross and Juilie Triffitt, have over thirty five years' experience in the furniture industry. Adopting a 'boutique' approach to furniture production, Ross and Juilie have aimed to provide customers with an individualistic and tailored approach to furniture design and manufacturing.
Do you make everything you sell?
Just about all of the furniture is made by Eclipse except many of the dining chairs we offer. All our furniture is made at our factory in Wagga Wagga. Many of our dining chairs are bought in from other suppliers.
These days dining chairs are being made overseas in countries such as China at very inexpensive prices and quite honestly we are not above selling them. They really are excellent quality chairs that we can sell at very reasonable prices such as, $275 for a chair with an upholstered seat. We buy them in unstained and we match them specifically to the table that they are going with and we do get to achieve a very good match. Otherwise, we do make some chairs ourselves such as the Vella chair and stool and we might expand on the designs we make down the track.
WHY BUY FROM ECLIPSE?
Eclipse Experience
Eclipse Handcrafted Furniture has well over thirty years' experience in furniture retail and over twenty years' experience in manufacturing timber furniture. Over time Eclipse has re-invented itself and evolved to suit the changing market. We have always considered ourselves to be in the 'boutique' vein; outside the mainstream furniture industry. This is a quality that we are extremely proud of and continue to embrace.
Eclipse Craftsmanship
Eclipse employs nine craftsmen which have been dedicated to the business for many years, having over 50 years of combined experience in building and finishing handcrafted furniture. Each craftsman has an eye for detail, assessing the timber to suit the customers taste and then working with the characteristics of each piece of timber to ensure its natural features are the focus. Furthermore, Eclipse furniture is constructed using a combination of traditional and modern techniques to ensure they are enduring, functional and family-friendly.
Point of Difference
Eclipse Handcrafted Furniture possesses a real point of difference; exclusively using recycled and salvaged Australian Hardwood timbers. Australia is blessed with the largest and most beautiful range of hardwood timbers in the world. The timber Eclipse uses is either salvaged from naturally fallen trees or recycled from old buildings. This gives each piece from Eclipse its own signature and unique story to tell.
''Sourcing our timber this way means we have considerable variations in appearance. Timber that has been sustainably harvested from large logging forests possesses a consistency in colour and appearance. At Eclipse, each piece of timber we use is unique and this adds to the individuality of what we offer. Each piece of furniture we make is matchless, possessing its own signature and conveying a little bit of the Australian story. We think that is pretty special…''
Eclipse designs are minimalist with clean lines and balanced proportions. Highlighting natural feature is a strong part of the 'Eclipse look', with the design complimenting the beautiful timber rather than the other way around. We leave the poetry in what we make.
Eclipse Dining Tables
Eclipse is well known for their stunning, natural-looking and family-friendly timber dining tables. Eclipse dining tables are made from the durable and hardwearing Australian eucalypt timber, making them resilient to the wear and tear that comes with time and use. Combined with their hardwearing oil and wax finish, a dining table from Eclipse can be used to your heart's content.
We often get families who are concerned about marking or scratching the table. We handcraft and finish our tables with that in mind. We aim to ensure our customers can get the most out of our products. Our tables will endure everyday wear and tear. In 30 years' time, your Eclipse dining table won't be worn; it will be beautifully aged…'
CUSTOM MADE FAQ'S
Do you make to order?
Yes, Eclipse does make to order. If you can't find what you are looking for in our current stock for sale, Ross can assist you with designing something to suit your space. Eclipse prides itself on making individually handcrafted pieces to suit its customers. Why buy something you like, when you can own something you love…
How do I go about getting something made up?
You will need to convey to us, either via photos or drawings with;
- Sizes are shown what the item is.
- What your limitations or requirements are in terms of space, internally and externally
- What look you are aiming for in terms of colour or general timber appearance and in terms of functionality.
We will then have a look at it, after which we may need to get back to you with some questions. Otherwise, there is the possibility that we might say, 'I'm sorry we would rather not make such an item at this stage'. This could be for various reasons but in essence, if we can't see a reasonable return on the amount of time that will be required from start to finish, we would rather not even start the process of quoting on it. We might just give you a ballpark estimate on what the cost might be before we spend any time quoting on it so you can see if it will be roughly within your budget.
Otherwise, if it's pretty straight forward we will just give you a quote. Then if you would like to go ahead we will get you to supply us with your address and all phone numbers, home, work and mobile and we will require a 30% deposit upon ordering. Also very importantly, we will require a good explanation of what the access is like into where the item has to go. This is obviously extremely important for large pieces of furniture.
How long does it take for an order to be completed?
Eclipse Handcrafted Furniture's custom made lead time is generally 6 weeks but can vary depending upon the current number of orders, timber availability and the level of craftsmanship required to complete the project.
Can I have my own design made by Eclipse?
Yes, we will certainly make something to your specific design. We are very experienced in making furniture to order which means we know the right questions to ask to ensure we deliver what is expected.
Does it cost more to have my own design made up?
The short answer to that is - usually, however, it will depend on a few factors such as how much time needs to be spent on working out how the item will be made.
Is it less expensive to have a few things made up at the same time?
No, as mentioned earlier, because we build furniture on an individual basis it still takes us the same amount of time to make each piece whether we're one item for one customer or half a dozen for one customer. The only way it might be cheaper is if we are making a few of the same item where some economy of scale may come into it.
I have a basic idea of what I want but can Eclipse help me to fine-tune it?
Yes. Let Eclipse know your ideas, desires, parameters and/or space restrictions. If you are looking for a custom made cabinet or entertainment unit let Eclipse know additional information such as, what you need the item to store. Also, think about what type of timber you would like to use. Once you have the information Eclipse designer Ross will compose a draft sketch of your item and email it to you for further discussion. Make sure you check out Ideas and Inspirations from Eclipse Handcrafted Furniture to assist you in finding what you are looking for.
Can I have an item made in any timber?
We specialise in using native Australian hardwood timbers that we source from unconventional sources. Unconventional meaning, we don't buy timber through the timber industry as such, we deal with small operators, who mill up trees on private properties and kiln-dry them. This is called 'salvaged timber' however this does restrict us in the range of species that we have access to and can offer. Although we usually have around eight or nine Eucalypt species that we have on a fairly regular basis. And we do also love to use recycled timber as well.

Can I have something made to my specific dimensions?
Yes, because everything made by us is made individually, it allows us to make furniture to almost any size.
Can I supply my own timber to have something made?
In most cases, yes, but this will be decided on a case by case basis.

WARRANTY FAQ'S
What sort of warranty do you offer on your products?
We will stand by anything we have made indefinitely. Although our prices are quite reasonable for what we offer, it's still quite a big outlay in most cases and we like to think that what we make is going to be around for a very long time and we're prepared to stand by it for as long as we are in business.
How can I be sure that what we order is what we will receive?
This is an obvious question that would be in the minds of many people who are contemplating ordering a piece of furniture from us. Especially if it is being done on the basis of never having seen our furniture before in real life.
As mentioned previously in this FAQ section, we have been making furniture to order for a very long time and we know what the right questions are to ask and we know what the right things are to explain to ensure that what is delivered to you is at the very least equal to what you were expecting. Essentially, it comes down to trust and to enhance that level of trust we offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee. However, at the risk of this sounding as though the truth is being stretched or embellished somewhat, in the last ten years we have only ever had to replace one item of furniture after it was delivered and that was a dining table for a guy in Sydney around seven years ago -that's the truth.
Most of the time we exceed a customer's expectations.
